WOMH: Fluffy Shell Stitch Scarf

What’s On My Hook is a weekly glimpse into a project I’m currently working on, as well as life updates and usually cat pictures.

Hey everyone! Here again with an update of what’s on my hook. The answer is a lot of things! I’m working on the second pattern for my fall crochet accessory series. If you missed it, last week I released the free pattern for the Velvet Dream circle scarf, a super plush and easy-to-make scarf using simple stitches and an amazing velvet yarn. You can check out the post and get the free pattern here!

I’m also working on some simple camel stitch infinity scarves on commission; I finished one and have three more to go by the end of this month. In addition to that, I’m also making some crocheted holiday-themed wreaths to donate to a local holiday auction, which is also due at the end of the month. If I crochet any faster, my hooks might catch fire! Haha. #woodenhookproblems

But back to my current project: this lightweight, boucle-style fluffy yarn is so pretty (especially in this soft grey shade) but let me tell you, it is not for the poor-sighted. The fluff eats up all the stitch definition, which makes it really hard to see the stitches and figure out where to put the hook! I’ve frogged this design a few times now (also not an easy feat) and I’m hoping this easy shell-stitch repeat will help make the construction easier. If you have any tips for making working with this kind of yarn easier, please let me know!

The positive side of things is that it’s sooo soft and lightweight, it’s like crocheting with a cloud. It retains heat nicely too, so it’ll be cozy and warm without being too heavy. It’ll make a beautiful finished product, if I can just get through the making part of it.

And as always, Koko has to inspect the yarn to make sure it meets quality standards.

She’s thinking, “can I eat this?”
