Hey everyone! I have been SO excited about this new crochet blanket pattern and I’m happy to finally share it with you all! This cuddly, stretchy, softer-than-soft throw blanket is one of my favorite makes ever. I’m a huge fan of blankets and this one is like wrapping up in a cozy cocoon of fuzzy warmth. I actually made it for a gift this holiday season, and I’m almost too attached to it to part with it!

Toasted Marshmallow Crochet Blanket Pattern

I used Yarnspiration’s Caron Latte Cakes yarn for this blanket. If you haven’t tried this yarn before, GET THEE TO A CRAFT STORE. I know I rave a lot about soft yarns, but you guys, these cakes really take the cake! It’s like crocheting with angel hair and clouds spun together. I’m working on two other personal projects with this yarn and it’s extremely hard to put it down because it is just so dang soft! Run, don’t walk, to your nearest Caron-carrying craft store and pick up one cake in every color. I promise you’ll thank me. (Or you can make it easy and just snag some of this fluffy yarn goodness right here!)

But onto the pattern: this blanket pattern uses half double crochet in the back loop to create a super-stretchy ribbed fabric. This makes the blanket lightweight and easy to wrap up in. The stretch factor combined with the fuzzy yarn means you’ll never want to put it away!

It’s also a quick & easy project; I finished mine in the timespan of a weekend. If you’re looking for a last-minute gift idea, or if you just want to indulge in a simple, enjoyable project after the holiday gift-making rush is over, then this is the crochet pattern for you!

Pattern

The Toasted Marshmallow Throw Blanket is a quick & cozy crochet project. This fuzzy self-striping yarn paired with a simple ribbed stitch makes this blanket soft, stretchy, and super lovable. It can be customized to fit any shape and size, from baby blanket to king-size bedspread. Curl up with this comfy throw blanket and a cup of hot cocoa on a cold winter evening, and let the warm fuzzy feelings flow!

Skill level: Easy+

Finished size: 48″ long x 35″ wide (note: these measurements are approximate, since this blanket is so stretchy!)

Gauge: 4″ x 4″ square: 9 rows of 12 hdc in back loop

Materials:

2 skeins of Caron Latte Cakes in “Coconut Cream”

6.5mm hook

Scissors

Tapestry needle

Abbreviations:

st(s) – stitch(es)

ch – chain

hdc – half double crochet

Special Stitches:

HDC in back loop – Short for half double crochet in the back loop, this stitch is made by yarning over, inserting your hook into the back loop of the v-formation of the next stitch, yarning over again, then pulling a loop through all three loops on your hook.

Notes:

This pattern is written in US crochet terms.

To customize the size of your blanket, simply add more chains to your starting chain and/or adding more rows. I wanted mine to be the size of a small throw, but your can make yours as small or large as you want!

This yarn can be slippery, so take extra care and leave long tails to weave in for extra security.

Toasted Marshmallow Throw Blanket

Leaving a long tail (at least 6″), ch 104.

Row 1: Hdc in third ch from hook and in each ch across. Ch 2, turn. (102)

Row 2: Hdc in the back loop of first st and in each st across. Ch 2, turn. (102)

Row 3-95: Repeat Row 2.

Row 96: Hdc in the back loop of first st and in each st across. Fasten off, leaving a long tail (at least 6″), and weave in ends.

And that’s it! You can customize your blanket even more by adding fluffy fringe or a border of your choosing. I’d love to see your finished projects; tag me in your pics using #emsfiberarts for a chance to be featured on my instagram!

It makes me so happy to hear them. 😊 I hope you enjoy the blanket pattern; you can adjust the sizing of the blanket by adding additional chains at the beginning to make it wider, or adding more rows to make it longer! Let me know if you have any questions.

  2. I just discovered your website and the pattern for your “Toasted Marshmallow Throw”. I’ve ordered the Caron Latte Cake yarn and looking forward to getting started on this throw! The crocheted pillows shown in the photo with the throw are also gorgeous. Do you know how I can find the pattern for them and what yarn was used in the pillows?

    Many thanks,

    Jan S.

    1. Hi Jan! I’m so glad that you’re excited about the throw, I hope you enjoy making it!

The crocheted pillows are actually another one of my creations, and I haven’t gotten around to writing up the pattern yet, but I can tell you that they use Lion Brand Wool-Ease Thick and Quick yarn- about 2 skeins for each pillow. I used 12″ x 12″ standard pillow forms, and crocheted a simple rectangular panel using the lemon peel stitch. Then I folded the panel in half over the pillow form, and sewed up the sides.

I know that’s not the best explanation, so I’ll definitely get around to writing that pillow pattern and getting it posted! Thanks so much for your feedback. 😊
